Call to conduct study on tremors

KOCHI: The Association for Environmental Protection on Tuesday demanded the government to conduct a study to ascertain the cause and aftermath of the tremors which had damaged nearly 150 houses in Kalamassery and about 50 houses near Kayyantikkara on Monday. “Representatives of the association had visited the affected areas. We noticed cracks on the walls, floors and even basements of many houses,”  said association secretary S Sitaraman.“The so-called developmental work which are conducted without considering environmental factors is one of the causes for such incidents,” he added. The association also requested the government to extend assistance to the affected residents immediately.
