Campaigning ends, DUSU and JNU polls today
In DU, 12 candidates each are in the fray for president and vice president and 17 are vying for the post of secretary.

With campaigning over, Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will see polling for their respective students' unions on Friday.

The campaigning ended on Thursday while the customary Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) presidential debate took place on Wednesday.

The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) results will be declared on Friday itself while in JNU, counting of votes will begin late on Friday evening and the results are expected on Sep 16.

The DUSU poll slugfest is between the National Students' Union of India (NSUI, backed by the Congress) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh students' wing).

Though the administration of the colleges within Delhi University manage the elections, clashes between supporters of NSUI and ABVP have resulted in injuries to some students.

In DU, 12 candidates each are in the fray for president and vice president, 17 are vying for the post of secretary and 10 are contesting for joint secretary.

Students themselves manage the JNU students' polls and left wing parties have held sway here.

Hand-made posters are plastered all over the JNU campus. Candidates contesting for the various posts tried to impress fellow-students and voters at the general body meeting held here on Tuesday.

At JNU, there are eight candidates for president's post, five for vice-president, six for general secretary and three for joint secretary.

Around 9,000 students would cast their votes in the JNUSU election while the figure for DUSU is around 1.25 lakh.

While Delhi Police personnel have been deployed to make certain no untoward incident takes place in DU, internal security consisting of private guards will ensure a smooth election at JNU.
