CAS in 4 more cities soon: Dasmunsi
The Conditional Access System (CAS) will be introduced in Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bhopal.

New Delhi Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi on Friday said that the Conditional Access System (CAS) will be introduced in four more cities soon.

The other three cities where CAS facility would be implemented in the second phase are Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bhopal.

CAS was introduced on an experimental basis in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata in the first phase and the response was encouraging.

Dasmunsi’s ministry was also laying emphasis on expansion of the Direct to Home (DTH) system throughout the country for uninterrupted and quality programmes for consumers.

“The Centre would introduce a Model Broadcasting Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament. It will be the most progressive and media friendly bill in the world and the draft of the bill was already ready,” PTI quoted Dasmunsi as saying.

Referring to Orissa, Dasmunsi said an expert team of Prasar Bharati would soon visit Orissa's Kandhamal district to study the reason behind non-availability of signals there.

People in the hill-locked tribal district are unable to listen to radio or watch TV due to the problem.

Besides steps were being taken to start FM radio service under Prasar Bharati in the state.

He also said that the Centre had no plan to regulate the electronic media.
