CBI sources said the PE has been registered into the death of Rahul Solanki, a suspected imposter, who allegedly appeared for candidates for the test conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board.

A PE is the first stage of registering a regular case during which facts are verified and available material is analysed if it prima facie constitutes a crime which can be probed by the agency.

A third year medical student of Gandhi Medical College, Solanki was found dead in his room at the college in December 2012.

His role was being probed by the Madhya Pradesh police.

The CBI team is led by Joint Director RP Agarwal and also includes SP Vivek Priyadarshi who had successfully cracked 2G spectrum allocation scam.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu had on July 9 transferred the probe of all Vyapam cases, including the related deaths, to CBI.

The agency has also far registered 13 FIRs in connection with various Vyapam scam cases, including the death of an MBBS student Namrata Damor.
