Srinagar: The repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir continue and have spread panic among villagers along the border. An entire village in Sambha district is completely deserted.
Pakistan fired through the night on 20 areas in four sectors - RS Pura, Ramgarh, Sambha and Arnia. The village of Suchetgarh in Samba district is now deserted after all villagers fled the area while schools in Pargwal have been ordered closed.
While the ceasefire violations have escalated, government sources say the situation is being closely monitored, promising an appropriate response if Pakistan fails to scale down such incidents.
Top government sources have told CNN-IBN that the number of ceasefire violations have doubled this year crossing 200, as compared to 117 in 2012. The Directorate Generals of Military Operation of both countries are in touch and their report is awaited.
According to a senior BSF officer, the Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing at the six Border Out Posts (BOP) in RS Pura sub-sector from 8.30 pm. Two of the six BOPs were pounded with mortar shells, he said. The BSF troops took positions and retaliated effectively triggering exchanges, the officer said, adding there was no loss of life or injury to anyone on the Indian side.
