A centipede was found in the food served at the Medical College Hospital canteen Vandanam, near here, on Tuesday.
Following the incident, the hospital superintendent closed down the canteen for an indefinite period. The incident occurred as Sajesh, a native of Pulinkunnu of Kuttanad bought a parcel of parotta and curry.
Sajesh, brother of Anjana, who is being treated at medical college for viral fever, bought a parcel of parotta and curry at 11am from the canteen. “We found a dead centipede in the curry while she was eating it. Soon, we informed the Medical College superintendent and food safety officer.”
Following this, the food inspectors rushed to the spot and they found the canteen was working without licence of the Food Safety department. The canteen had been operated by a Cherthala native for some years with the permission of the hospital superintendent.
Medical College hospital superintendent Dr PK Suma said that she had ordered to seal off the canteen until it gets a licence from the Food Safety Department.
