Bhopal: Hours after the charred body of a three-year-old boy was found near his house in Bhopal on Tuesday, the police claimed to have cracked the murder mystery with the arrest of two persons. Sunita Solanki and her brother-in-law, Mukesh, who are the deceased's neighbours, were arrested in connection with the murder.
Varun, son of Vipin Meena, was allegedly kidnapped when he went out of his home at Baragarh in the Chichali area to buy chocolates. The child had taken Rs 10 from his grandfather to buy chocolates on Sunday. When he did not return after an hour, the family panicked and approached the police. A few residents of the area told the police that a four-wheeler was seen in the vicinity around the time when the child was allegedly abducted.
The child's body was badly charred when the police recovered it on Tuesday afternoon from a neighbouring house that had been closed for years and recently bought by a man. The police said that a feud with the could have led to the abduction and killing.
The arrested duo had a fight with the boy’s family in the past. Another reason behind the murder could be that Solanki suspected that the child's family was involved in several thefts at her home.
After abducting the child on Sunday, the two accused killed him, dumped his body in a drum and poured wheat over it. They later took the body to a closed house and burnt it by dousing it with petrol.
The family members of the child have sought the death penalty for the accused. The police were forced to use mild lathicharge after the child's family attacked Solanki. Heavy police force was also deployed to keep things calm.
Former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan claimed that the child had been murdered due to the slackness of the police and administration. "Congress ka haath, apradhiyon ke saath (the Congress is with the criminals),” he said in a tweet in Hindi.
The incident has brought back memories of an incident in Chitrakoot in which six-year-old twin boys were murdered by their captors in February. The murders had led to protests in the town.
