CHENAI: After a rather disappointing Class 12 performance, students from the city have made it to the top three rank list in the Class 10 public examination, the results of which were announced on Friday. Eight students from SSLC, four students from Matriculation and one student from the Anglo-Indian stream have made it to the top three slots of the state rank list in Tamil Nadu, unlike previous years when the state rank list consisted mostly of students from the districts. The good news is that the overall pass percentage in Chennai has shot up across the boards, except for the Anglo-Indian stream. The figures went up from 87.04 per cent in 2010 to 88.21 per cent this year in the SSLC board. In the Matriculation board, it went up from 91 per cent last year to 92.37 per cent this year but in the Anglo-Indian board, the overall pass percentage dipped from 94.65 last year to 93.61 this year. While there was one topper in the city from the Anglo-Indian stream, there was one student who came first and three others who came third in the Matriculation stream. Meanwhile, in the SSLC board, one student from the city shared the top slot with students from the districts while four students came second and three came third. Unlike earlier years, when the top three slots went solely to the districts, this time around, the students from the city have performed better, with many students even topping in different subjects.A total of 35,455 students appeared for the SSLC examinations, 18,024 students for the Matriculation board and 2,301 students for the Anglo-Indian board.
