New Delhi: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram praised the Tamil Nadu state Budget while describing it as "agro friendly and growth oriented." Chidambaram said that more allocation of funds to social sectors like higher education and health should be hailed.
The finance minister welcomed the proposals of the budget presented by Tamil Nadu Finance Minister K Anbazhagan in the state assembly on Friday. He said that much like the Union budget, the Tamil Nadu budget also laid emphasis on agriculture.
He said the budget's fiscal deficit had been contained to 2.84 per cent of the gross state demestic product, which should be welcomed.
However, DMDK leader and actor Vijayakant criticized the recommendations. Calling the budget a "paper flower, which is beautiful but does not have fragrance," Vijayakant said that only few concessions had been announced in the budget while there was no solution to the problems faced by the people.
“Marginal and small farmers would not have any relief,” Vijayakant was quoted by PTI. He said that there was no scheme to prevent girls dropping out from school. "What is the use of a flower without fragrance? " he asked.
