Chief Minister promises to act against cross-voters

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday said that stern action would be taken against BJP legislators who cross-voted during the July 19 Presidential poll.

On the sidelines of a function here, he told reporters: “A committee will be constituted by BJP national leaders to probe the matter. Action against the guilty legislators would be initiated after receipt of the probe report.”

Shettar said that a few ruling party legislators had indulged in cross-voting even in Legislative Council polls. “The party legislators had repeated even in the presidential polls only to embarrass party national leaders. The party has taken a serious note of this,” he added.

The CM said that the party is constituting a high-level committee to collect all evidences in this regard. “This would help to find out legislators who voted for Congress led UPA sponsored official candidate Pranab Mukherjee.” Ruling out any compromise when it comes to party discipline, Shettar said that party would take action against the guilty irrespective of their positions in the party.

Shettar refused to comment when asked whether the party will issue a whip to its members during ongoing Budget session.
