Chief secretary Minnie Mathew on Tuesday directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and other departments to temporarily stall taking up of the new works, till the completion of Conference of Parties-11 (CoP) summit. She asked the concerned departments to expedite the works which are nearing completion.
To review the developmental works taken up for CoP summit, the chief secretary along with the principal secretary of MAUD Sam Bob, GHMC commissioner M T Krishna Babu, HMDA metropolitan commissioner, Neerabh Kumar Prasad, HMWS&SB managing director J Syamala Rao, Cyberabad police commissioner D Tirumala Rao and other senior officials inspected the on-going works at Hitech city and at National Academy of Construction (NAC) .
The chief secretary asked the officials not to take up new works at this point of time as it may take a lot of time for completion and suggested to concentrate on those ongoing works which are at the stage of completion.
She directed GHMC not to go ahead with the laying of service roads at HICC as it would consume a lot of time and asked them to continue the works after the CoP summit. The officials told the chief secretary that though the work was allotted to the contractor more than two months ago, the said contractor could only complete the storm water drain works and failed to lay the road.
“The contractor will face action for not completing the prescribed works in the time frame,” GHMC commissioner Krishna Babu told reporters later at a press conference in GHMC head office. To decongest the traffic leading to CoP venue near Hitech city, Hitex, Shilparamam, commissioner said that in coordination with the police officials, three link roads have been developed through road widening.
“We are taking all necessary measures to avoid traffic snarls and commuters are not put to inconvenience because of the summit. The roads developed by GHMC near Madhapur Police station, Road. no. 36 Jubilee Hills near Jubilee Ritz and at near Ayyappa Society in Gachibowli,” he said.
He further added the GHMC has taken up special sanitation drive to remove debris that gathered due to laying of footpaths. and waste road material by employing 12,000 workers.
