Chinese film bags top honour at IFFI in Goa
The Wall won the Golden Peacock Award for the best film.

Panaji: It’s Chinese film The Wall that finally walked away with the top honour at the 38th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa.

Directed by Lin Chih Ju, the film won the Golden Peacock Award for the best film on Monday.

Bangladeshi filmmaker Golam Biplab won the Silver Peacock prize for the film On The Wings Of Dreams while Mexican child actress Julia Stonin got the Silver Peacock for More Than Anything Else In This World.

The most promising director honour went to Pongpat Wachirabunjong from Thailand for the film Me, Myself.

The festival which was kicked off by actor Shahrukh Khan on November 23 saw the screening of Palme d'Or winning critically-acclaimed Romanian film Four Months, Three Weeks and Two Days as the inaugural movie, directed by Cristian Mungiu.

Malayalam film Ore Kadal directed by Shyamaprasad had opened the feature films section of the Indian Panorama while a Bengali film Bagher Bacha by Bishnu Dev Halder was the fire starter for the non-feature section of the festival.

Among over 200 films that were screened at the festival, one of the highlights of the event was the premiere of the Amitabh Bacchan starrer The Last Lear directed by Ritupurno Ghosh, which had earlier premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.

Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye, which has actor Naseeruddin Shah in a guest appearance, was received well at the festival.
