CHENNAI: CAADRIA, a three-day conference to trace the latest developments in computer-aided design in architectural construction, was inaugurated at the Hindustan University campus here on Wednesday. Computer-Aided Architectural Design Research In Asia (CAADRIA) is an association that has so far conducted 16 conferences in different parts of the world, with the 17th show taking place here in the city. Sixty architects from across the world who took part in the conference read out their research papers. Delivering the chief guest’s address, architect C N Raghavendran observed that the boom in the construction industry had begun at the dawn of the new millennium. With the growth of consumerism architecture got a new impetus, he said. Digitalised designing in architecture is versatile, but has taken away the jobs of draftsmen, he added. Dr Elizabeth Verghese, chancellor, Hindustan University, delivered the inaugural address.The conference saw participation from Professors Andrew Li, president, CAADRIA, Japan; Mark Cameron Burry, RMIT University, Melbourne; and Amit Srivatsava, director (consulting), Bentley Systems among others.
