New Delhi: Congress is hoping against hope that its government in Karnataka survives. The party's core group met on Thursday to discuss the situation in Karnataka.
Leaders had little clue that the coalition government would come to the verge of being toppled in a carefully crafted plot on Wednesday night. The shock was showing on the faces of the Congress party members on Thursday morning as well.
Congress In-charge Karnataka, A K Anthony said, "We will continue discussions and are closely monitoring all developments in the state."
Surprisingly though, the BJP in Delhi was not in a celebratory mood either maybe because there is no taking chances with a wily politician like former prime minister, H D Deve Gowda.
And with seven days still to go before the fate of Dharam Singh government would be known, the responses were cautious.
BJP leader, Arun Jaitley said, "Why has the Governor given such an unduly large period to a minority Chief Minister to come up with a majority? Raj Bhawans are in this state expected to determine the factor of majority at the earliest possible period."
A day after the political crisis in Karnataka hit Congress, the party admits that the high command is keeping a close watch on the situation. But party insiders claim that this close monitoring has perhaps come a little too late in the day
Ranchi, Patna and now Bangalore. Congress is losing state administrations across the country one after the other.
No wonder the party appears resigned to give up even the chief ministership in Karnataka.
