Consumer Protection Act turns 25
Finance Minister K M Mani wants murder cases to be initiated against those who adulterate food products.

Finance Minister K M Mani on Saturday said that murder cases should be initiated against those who adulterate food products.

The availability of quality products is a consumer’s right. The sale of below average products can be considered as providing poison to customers. The society should arise against this injustice.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 25th anniversary celebrations of the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act at the CSI Retreat Centre here.

Jose K Mani MP inaugurated the district-level awareness campaign for the Right to Information (RTI) Act in a meeting organised by the Consumer Protection of Kerala.

Fr Biju Varkey, municipal vice-chairperson Mayakkutty John, former Kochi Corporation Deputy Mayor Sabu George, Senior government Pleader at the High Court of Kerala Noble Mathew, Kudumbashree North chairperson Bindu K Nair, ARCO state vice-president Kuruvilla John and Prince Thekkan spoke.

Consumer protection awards were distributed to the following award winners: Kottayam Vidyapeeth principal Varghese Eapen, Mount Carmel School principal-in-charge P G Daisy, Babu Menon of Toshiba India, Bavej Parekh, C M Jacob of Shalingal Rubber Nursery, Palakkad, Jose Palakkudi of Palakkudi Rubber Nursery, Kasargod, E K Suseel Kumar of Veera Maruti business group, Kalpetta, Jinto Poulose of Pallasseri Earthworks, Kodanad, K Muraleedharan Namboothiri of Namboothiri’s Sun Foods, Thodupuzha, Kudumbashree chairperson Indu K Nair, and Sinish of Velappas, Perumbavoor.
