HYDERABAD: The traffic inspector of Vanasthalipuram was today suspended on charges of corruption. The inspector collected ‘mamool’ from jeep and auto drivers on the pretext of police welfare fund.Cyberabad police commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao today suspended the traffic inspector, T Srinivas Reddy, following several allegations that he collected monthly ‘mamools’ from autowallahs, truck, jeep and private cab drivers running their vehicles daily in his jurisdiction. To collect the ‘mamool’, he reportedly devised an innovative method and even used a Home Guard.According to sources, Reddy used to provide a sticker to the auto or jeep drivers who pay the monthly ‘mamool’. The driver had to paste the sticker (of a cartoon character) on the front wind screen indicating that he had paid the amount for the month and no traffic personnel would be stopping the driver in that month. The sticker would be replaced every month for convenience. During inquiry, the charges against Srinivas Reddy were proved and he was placed under suspension. A Home Guard, Bala Narasimha, who used to collect the ‘mamools’ was also removed from service.
