KOCHI: The Kochi city police have filed an application before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here seeking permission to hold further inquiry into the LIS Deepasthambham fraud while putting the trial proceedings on hold. The petition was filed by the Assistant Commissioner on behalf of the City Police Commissioner."It has come to the notice of the police that evidence collected so far is insufficient and more evidence needs to be collected," the petitioner said. The Home Department gave sanction for further inquiry following the letter given by former investigation officer and State Transport Commissioner T P Sen Kumar to the Chief Minister. The letter stated that the chargesheet contained anomalies even though the case related to a fraud of around Rs 850 crore. The DirectorGeneral of Prosecution had given legal advice that further probe could be conducted putting the trial proceedings on hold. The application will come up for hearing on Wednesday. It may be recalled that Express on June 27 had published a news report in which Sen Kumar was quoted as saying that there was no proper followup action and monitoring on financial fraud cases and, in some cases, 'very helpful' attitude was taken towards the culprits, wherein highly improper and incomplete charges were submitted before the courts.Senkumar was further quoted as saying that he was transferred within three weeks after initiating the case and had also mentioned the intervention from the higherups of the department to weaken the case.
