The City Corporation will submit an affidavit in the High Court on Tuesday over the August 3 episode, accusing the State Government of lacking the will to implement the court order. It will also include a complaint against the presence of UDF MLA N Sakthan at the agitation spot at Vilappil, where prohibitory orders were in place, violating which he spoke to the public through the mike, urging them to strike.
The Court had ordered the district administration to give protection to the Corporation to transport the machinery needed for the completion of the construction of a leachate treatment plant there. However, following public protest at Vilappil, this move was dropped.
‘’We are also thinking of moving the Supreme Court saying the state has done contempt of court by leaving the operations halfway and not showing the determination to help the Corporation when we have a court order in our favour,’’ said V S Padmakumar, Parliamentary party leader of LDF in the Corporation council.
He said that the machinery was ready and on the truck by 6 am. The Corporation team waited till 9.45 am when, at last, the district administration team arrived. In the early hours, there was no public gathering at Vilappil. But the operations were seemingly delayed to ensure public protest, Padmakumar said.
