The Communist party of India (CPI) demanded the state government to withdraw the hike in power tariff and bear the surcharge itself.
The CPI state council discussed the prevailing situation in the power sector and the government’s policies on its second day of meeting. It adopted a resolution on the power tariff hike and decided to take out an agitation on the issue on July 31 across the state.
The CPI criticised the government for not having any future plan over the demand and supply of power in the state. It said that the small and medium sector industries have been badly affected in the state and lakhs of workers have lost their jobs.
It also demanded that the state government should increase mess charges for all the eligible students.
