KOCHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) on Monday submitted before the Kerala High Court that CPM activists are preventing the arrest of Kannur district secretariat member Karayil Rajan and Thiruvangad local committee secretary, Karayil Chandrasekharan, the seventh and eighth accused in the controversial Fasal murder case. The CBI made the submission when the bail plea of two local CPM leaders came up for hearing before the court. “The CPM is keeping them in safe hideouts, thus stalling the arrest,” said Chandrasekhara Pillai, standing counsel for the CBI. It was further submitted that there is evidence to prove the role of the two accused. A gang of eight armed persons arrived on three motorcycles and hacked Fasal in front of Liberty Quarters. According to the CBI, the CPM had conspired to murder Fasal because he was luring youngsters to join the NDF.The CBI submitted that the petitioners assigned the work to the accused led by Kodi Suni, the prime accused in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case. Then the assailants were provided a safe haven. The witnesses were influenced and false evidence was planted. There was also an attempt to mislead the course of the investigation. However, M K Damodaran, counsel for the petitioners, contended that the CBI has falsely implicated the accused. He added that Fasal was not a CPM party worker and that neither did he resign from the party nor was he an active member of the NDF, which rules out the enmity between him and the party.
