BANGALORE: A senior Neurosurgeon of NIMHANS has filed a complaint against the staff of State Bank of India accusing them of misusing his credit card and withdrawing Rs 5.3 lakh from his account.Dr Sampath V, who heads the Neurosurgery department at NIMHANS, had an account at the SBI branch in NIMHANS campus. Sampath had applied for a credit card in February this year, which was rejected. However, after a month, Dr Sampath approached the bank again for a credit card. The bank manager then introduced him to a staff member, identified as Sameer Kadam, who agreed to get a card for Dr Sampath. Kadam took down all the account details of Dr Sampath and promised to get him a card           within 21 days. When Dr Sampath did not get any update on his credit card even after a month, he approached the manager who then blatantly refused that he had any information. “The manager even refused the fact that he introduced me to Kadam, who had taken my details”, Dr Sampath said.Miffed by this, Dr Sampath approached the grievance cell of the credit card section who upon checking the details revealed that Dr Sampath’s card had been sanctioned but was dispatched to a fake address. On further verification it was found that Dr Sampath’s residential documents submitted at the time of application for the credit card had been tampered with. Amidst this confusion Dr Sampath learnt that Rs 5.3 lakh, which he had kept in fixed deposit, was withdrawn using his credit card. He suspects the involvement of the bank staff in the scam, which needs to be probed in detail by the police.
