CUDDALORE: John David, serving life sentence in the Navarasu murder case, was released on a three-day parole to attend his father’s last rites. John David came out of the Cuddalore central prison on Tuesday evening and went to a private hospital in Chennai where his father Marimuthu died. He had petitioned the prison officials to let him go on parole to attend his father’s last rites. He was escorted to Chennai by one sub-inspector, one head constable and four policemen.In 1996, medical college student Navarasu was brutally murdered in Annamalai University. In 1998, John David was given life sentence by Cuddalore principal sessions court.Later, his parents appealed to Madras High Court against the life sentence. The Madras High Court acquitted him from the case. Then, the State government moved the Supreme Court against the acquittal. In 2011, the Apex court upheld the Cuddalore court’s order following which David had been lodged in Cuddalore prison again.
