Dailies stop press in Manipur district

Imphal: Newspapers in Manipur’s Churachandpur district didn’t publish issues on Monday to protest against militants’ threat to media houses.

Newspapers will start publication when militants stop interfering in the freedom of the press, said a spokesperson for the Manipur Hill Journalists' Union.

Militant groups recently ordered local dailies to publish or not to publish certain items, he said.

Eight newspapers published in the district on Sunday organized a protest day against the frequent interference of militants.
