Death of college student stirs up a row

KOTTAYAM: Ravisankar, 21, a student of the Visveswaraya Engineering College, died after suffering injuries at the college hostel at Mattakara near here on Tuesday midnight.  The boy suffered injuries caused by broken glasspanes of a door in the hostel, the police said.Kanjirappally DySP Suresh Kumar and Ponkunnam CI Rajmohan visited the place after the incident. Initial reports suggested that the student had died owing to blood loss after suffering injuries to the main blood vessels.Meanwhile, there are reports that the police had acted late even after the college authorities sought their help at the private hospital where the student was taken to. According to the police, the accident happened during a birthday celebration of another student , where 30 students were present.  The police said that the mishap happened after the boy accidentally ploughed through the plain glass door. The college was in news after some parents launching agitation against the college accusing it of not having recognition for some courses. Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members staged a dharna in front of the college demanding action against the management. They shouted slogans against the government and said that the police have been left ineffective under the UDF government rule.
