Jammu: The standoff between the civilian government and the military in Pakistan is nothing new and not a cause for concern, but the developments there are being closely monitored by India, a top Army commander said on Sunday.

"What is happening in Pakistan is not historically new. They have had these problems before. Therefore, the country as well as Army are watching the events closely," General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lt Gen KT Parnaik told reporters in Jammu.

He was replying to a question about the ongoing standoff between the civilian government and the Army in Pakistan and its fallout in Jammu and Kashmir.

"There is no cause of concern. I can suggest and all we need to do is try and understand their (Pakistan's) system," he said.

"As and when events unfold, I am sure we will get to understand how things will get resolved in Pakistan. They have a difficult situation. As of now I don't see any alarm at least with us," he added.

Lt Gen Parnaik also said militants had the backing of the Pakistan Army as well as the ISI.

"Terrorists have always had support of Pakistan Army and ISI. So whether it is civilian government or Army, I don't see any perceptible change."
