London: Prince Charles was questioned by a former British police chief as part of the ongoing inquiry into the death of his ex-wife, Princess Diana, Britain's Royal Office revealed on Sunday.
"The Prince of Wales has recently met with Lord Stevens as part of his ongoing inquiry," a Clarence House spokeswoman said.
The spokeswoman's comments came after the Sunday Times reported that Lord Stevens, a former head of the London's Metropolitan Police, and the Prince of Wales met for several hours last week at Clarence House.
Charles was reportedly quizzed over events leading up to the death of Princess Diana and her alleged lover, Dodi Fayed, in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
Lord Stevens is probing suggestions that the crash was not an accident.
Diana, 36, and Dodi, 42, were killed along with their driver Henri Paul when their car crashed into a pillar in an underpass.
A French judge ruled in 1999 that the cash was an accident, and an investigation concluded that driver Paul had been drinking and was driving at high speed.
In January 2004, Royal Coroner Michael Burgess asked the Metropolitan Police, then led by Stevens, to undertake a broad inquiry into the deaths.
