Dowry: Newly-wed woman ends life

BANGALORE: Dejected over alleged dowry harassment, a 25-year-old newly-wed woman ended life by hanging herself at her residence in Bilekahalli, off Bannerghatta Road in Mico Layout police station limits on Sunday. The deceased Leelavathi, a native of Chitradurga, was married to Manjunath, 30, an accountant in a garment factory seven months ago. He is arrested in connection with the incident. The police said that there was lack of understanding between the couple and Manjunath allegedly harassed Leelavathi to bring more dowry. Dejected over this, she hanged herself at her room late on Saturday night when Manjunath had gone out. The incident came to light when he returned on Sunday morning. Manjunath has been arrested.  Case Against Olympic Association PresidentA case of threat to life has been registered against Karnataka Olympic Association President K Govindraj and two others in Basavanagudi police station. Sujata suresh, wife of Suresh, Director of Jakkur Aerodrome, is the complainant. According to the police, Sujatha was threatened of dire consequences on November 16 by two bike-borne unidentified miscreants if she does not ask her husband to withdraw all cases registered against Govindraj while he (Suresh) was with the Department of Spots and Youth Services.
