PUDUCHERRY: A Congress delegation, led by opposition leader and former Chief Minister V Vaithilingam, submitted a memorandum to Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh on Monday seeking his intervention to engage the CBI for a thorough probe into the allegations that Education Minister P M L Kalyanasundaram used a proxy to write his SSLC supplementary exam in a private school in Tindivanam.Speaking to reporters after submitting the memorandum to the LG at Raj Niwas along with PCC president A V Subramainan, former ministers MOHF Shahjahan, Kanadasamy, Namassivayam and former MLA Balaji, Vaithilingam said he requested the LG to seek clarification from Chief Minister Rangasamy regarding the issue and also requested him to initiate steps to drop Kalyanasundaram from the ministry.Vaithilingam said his party would write to the Home Ministry on the issue and also to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa seeking her intervention as well. The memorandum reads, “The recent reports have shown that P M L Kalyanasundaram had allegedly involved a proxy to write his class X social science examination on 29 September 2011 at Tagore Matriculation HSS, Jayapuram, Tindivanam.Tamil Nadu government has also prepared an enquiry report regarding this matter……. The reports against the Puducherry minister in the media are affecting the image of our UT as well as the dignity to the post of the minister,” the petition said.The ministers in the UT are appointed by the President of India, and we recommend that the matter be entrustve with the CBI for enquiry. Also Kalayanasundaram may be removed from the ministership till he comes out clean.” Vaithilingam said the minister may be a student for the Tamil Nadu education authorities, but “he is a minister for education for our Union Territory”.He added that the act of the minister could result in indiscipline amongst the student community who if caught in a similar situation may turn back and ask “if a minister can do this, then why can’t I?”Saying that the whole society would be affected by the minister’s act, Vaithilingam said, Kalayanasundaram owes an explanation to the people. He added that the education minister should step down till the probe is over.He said the minister’s action has brought shame to the UT, which is emerging as an education hub. He said the CBI enquiry is sought into the issue as it involves two states.DMK to back Cong in by-pollThe DMK has decided to support the Congress candidate in the Indira Nagar by-poll that has been scheduled for October 13.The party announced its stand after a meeting of its leaders on Monday afternoon.DMK convener and former chief minister R V Janakiraman assured the Congress leaders that his party cadre would work for the victory of Congress candidate V Arumugham in the by-poll.The meeting was attended by PCC chief A V Subramanian, former chief minister V Vaithilingam, former ministers Namassivayam, Kandasamy, ex-MLA Manohar, besides DMK deputy conveners S P Sivakumar, R Rajaraman, former MP C P Thirunavukkarasu, and former DMK MLA Dr M A Subramanian. Meanwhile, a group of former ministers met Pondicherry bishop Anthony Anandarayar to seek his support for their candidate .
