New Delhi: Tremors were felt in parts of northern India this evening after an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale rocked Pakistan's Balochistan area.
The tremors were felt around 5 PM in the national capital, border areas in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer and Barmer, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage. Met department said the temblor hit at a region located at 27 degree North Latitude and 65.7 degree East Longitude, which is in Pakistan.
The epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 10 km. The quake was experienced in the border areas of Jaisalmer and Barmer, said S S Singh, director of Met office here. People in Jaipur also said that they were shaken by the tremors.
At least 40 people were killed and over 80 injured in the quake in southwestern Pakistan with officials saying more persons could be buried under the rubble of collapsed homes. A second quake, measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale, hit the same area in Pakistan again at 6.31 PM.
