HYDERABAD: Mohammad Miyan, in-charge VC of EFLU and regular VC of the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, on Wednesday dismissed allegations levelled against him by the students, saying that though he may not be physically present, he was always involved in EFLU activities.“I am working on both the universities now and I have to allot time to both EFLU and MANUU as I have equal responsibility of both. And there are always problems, even if there is a VC in any university,” he told City Express. He pointed out that there were many sub-committees and academic advisors to deal with different problems of the students. “They are all regularly present on the campus to deal with them. They will update me with all the decisions to be taken,” he added. He denied that he had anything to do with the police action outside Mariott Hotel (see box). On the purpose of the executive council’s meeting, he explained that there were many pending matters related to finances and construction work. Wednesday’s meeting was the first of the reconstituted executive council which includes four visitors appointed by the President. Asked about the existing search committee for the appointment of a regular VC, he replied, “I cannot comment as the Human Resource Development Ministry has not notified us over the same. The ministry can make decisions and appoint a transitory position when any institution becomes a university (from CIEFL to EFLU). There is a difference between a transitory position and an institutional provision. I am the institutional VC for MANUU and the incharge VC of EFLU. People usually tend to misunderstand this fact.”He also said he would handover the reins to whoever comes as his successor. “There has been a delay in processing from the side of the HRD ministry as they have to take the best decision in the interests of the university. Even we want it to be finalised as soon as possible,” he explained. According to him, the next meeting of the EC will be held early next year.
