Elderly couples burnt bodies found at home
Police suspect involvement of adopted daughter, husband

Charred bodies of an elderly couple were found at their Agathiyar Kottam house near Dharmapuri here on Tuesday evening.

The deceased were identified as Narayanasamy (74) and his wife Vasantha (60), police said.

The passers-by alerted the police when they noticed smoke coming out from a room in the house. The bodies were discovered after the fire was put out.

Police suspect the involvement of the couple’s adopted daughter Anandhi, daughter of Narayansamy’s relative, and her husband Murugavel, an electrician by profession. Both Anandhi and her husband lived with Narayanasamy and his wife who had no child of their own.

The couple had developed differences with Anandhi after her marriage. They decided to sell the house but Anandhi wanted the house for herself. This led to frequent quarrels and the elderly couple moved to a separate portion of the same house.

The property dispute may have led to the killing of the couple who moved back into the house a couple of days ago, the police said.

Both Anandhi and her husband have been detained for questioning. The police are also believed to be on the lookout for Anandhi’s father-in-law.

A high ranking official said the post-mortem report of the bodies from the Government General Hospital was awaited for further investigation.
