A 55-year-old woman was crushed to death by an elephant in Gauhri range of Rajaji National Park on Wednesday, forest officials said.
The victim, Rekha Devi was attacked by the elephant at Ganga Bhogpur Talla village near Rishikesh, killing her on the spot, Ranger Rajendra Nautiyal said.
A similar incident occurred in the area about four days back when one Sudha Devi was attacked by an elephant. She sustained severe injuries in the attack and is still under treatment at a government hospital in Rishikesh.
Armed forest guards have been deployed in the village after the incident to search for the tusker and chase it away from inhabited areas.
