HYDERABAD: In the wake of ACB raids on the offices of liquor syndicates in the state, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the excise commissioner to ensure that the excise officials act in accordance with the rules and see that liquor is sold at MRP.The chief minister, outlining the policy of the state government to discourage consumption of liquor, wanted a campaign to promote awareness among people about the evil effects of the drinking vice.According to reliable sources, Kiran Kumar wanted the excise commissioner to complete the review of excise policy, so that he could take a decision at an appropriate time. He also ordered him to take action against those indulging in smuggling of nonduty paid liquor.At a meeting of excise officials on December 12, the chief minister made it clear that his government was committed to reducing the consumption of liquor.
