KOCHI: With gold prices touching the skyline and standing out in the crowd becoming  a lifestyle mantra, owning trendy-yet-affordable jewellery is what everyone  craves for. 'Eternal by Asha' brings in that rare combination. The jewellery designed by renowned designer Asha Kamal Modi at Abad Plaza  showcases the latest trendy silver ornaments plated with 22k gold, studded with precious and semi-precious stones. Her designs under the brand 'Art Karat' are famous for the creations that have been showcased in more than 10 Bollywood blockbusters, including Devdas, Monsoon Wedding and Zubeida to name a few. The expo has more than 700 intrinsic designs and the entire collection is priced between `5000 to `1,50,000. The compilation includes a beautiful  range of necklaces, long earrings, bracelets, bajubandhs, tikas, rings and  pins. In necklaces, temple and stone works are more in demand. They range from ` 3000 to `1,50,000. Necklaces of white coral with Indo-western contemporary designs are the highlight. Their prices are around `50,000 for the whole set. Pearl collections range from `3000 to `60,000. Since natural stones like ruby, emerald, pearl and zircon are used instead of diamond, pieces that range around 10 lakh are sold for `80,000. Stud collections include European- Paris collections of affordable prices. Bangles range from `6,000 to `40,000 and tikas range from `5,000 to `15,000. Some of the unique jewellery pieces included in the collection are from Hydrabadi Nizam collections of polly and stone work. Their price comes around `70,000. The Aaina Work is another unique piece and its price is `1,03,000. A fusion of white and yellow finish with leaf work is another attraction.  A European-style necklace costs `20,000 along with its matching earring."The exhibition is based on three ideas. Firstly, the use of silver-based metals and natural stones like zircon instead of highly expensive metals like gold and diamonds, cuts down the cost of these pieces eight to ten times. For instance, an ornament crafted in gold may cost `82,000 to one lakh,  whereas the same ornament crafted in silver and semi-precious stones may cost only around `10,000. Secondly, these ornaments are more affordable as young people these days prefer different sets for different outfits. Thirdly, wearing inexpensive jewellery allows one to travel without any tension," said Sushil Kumar, production manager of Art Karat.  Asha Kamal Modi and Saket Modi are the designers behind Art Karat. A fusion  of Asha's traditional ideas and Saket's western frame can be seen in their latest collection. Art Karat is the leading jewellery exporter in India which has links with America, Singapore, Canada, and many other cities of UK. Every year, Art Karat sells distinctive jewels to around 25,000 people from their company's various outlets. The Art Karat jewellery collection has a wide variety of both classic and contemporary designs inspired from Khajuraho, kingdoms of Rajasthan and kundan designs.
