CHENNAI: Additional Director General of Police M S Jaffer Sait was on Monday suspended following a DVAC probe into a complaint alleging that he had entered into a criminal conspiracy with others and got allotment of a Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) plot in Thiruvanmiyur by suppressing information. He also reportedly entered into an agreement with a private construction firm for further development of the property, thereby, defrauding the TNHB and deriving undue pecuniary advantage.Registering a case under various sections against Sait, Special Officer at the refugees’ camp at Mandapam, the DVAC conducted raids at his Anna Nagar residence and the office of eight others last Tuesday.Confirming the latest development, a senior police official told Express that Sait had been placed under suspension pending inquiry into the charges against him. The fate of Sait, who was considered the blue-eyed boy of former chief minister M Karunanidhi and wielded considerable influence under the previous DMK regime, became uncertain soon after the AIADMK came to power. From the powerful post of ADGP (Intelligence), he was banished to the refugees’ camp at Mandapam, seen in police circles as a punishment posting. His suspension now seems to indicate a total fall from grace with the new government.
