'Feluda' Sabyasachi back in Royal Bengal Rahashya
'Royal Bengal Rahashya', the latest in the Feluda film series, hits the screens on December 16.

New Delhi: Bengali actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty is all set to reprise the role of Bengali sleuth Feluda, or Pradosh Chandra Mitra, scripted and made popular by legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray as 'Royal Bengal Rahashya', the latest in the film series, hits the screens on December 16.

Ray's son Sandip has directed the film that also stars Bibhu Bhattacharya as Jatayu (Lalmohan Ganguly) and Saheb Bhattacharya as Topshe (Tapesh Ranjan Mitra). Royal Bengal Rahashya is a mystery novel in the Feluda series of detective fiction by the senior Ray adapted by Sandip in his film produced under the Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films banner.

This time the trio heads to the jungles of Dooars on the invitation of a Zamindar to hunt down a man-eating tiger. The highlight of the story is a spine-chilling encounter with a Royal Bengal tiger.

Feluda is expected to crack a riddle that indicates the location of a buried treasure in a plot that takes interesting turns to reveal rivalry, intrigue, jealousy and revenge.

Bhaswar Chattopadhyay plays the role of Tarit Sengupta, Debesh Raychowdhury is Sasanka Sanyal Basudeb Mukherjee is Monitosh Singha Roy, Paran Bandyopadhyay is Debotosh Singha Roy Biplab Chattopadhyay is Dibyendu Biswas and Sanjib Sarkar plays Madhablal in the film.

The film was mostly shot at Odisha's Dhenkanal district with some parts filmed in Kolkata and in North Bengal.

Veteran actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay, the first to play Feluda in two of Ray's films 'Sonar Kella' set in Rajasthan and 'Joy Baba Felunath' in Varanasi, has immortalized the character.

Royal Bengal Rahasya may not be the last in the Feluda franchise despite concerns of age catching up with Sabyasachi.

Sandip has been quoted as saying that Royal Bengal Rahasya is more cerebral, challenging and complex than any of the other stories he has filmized (Bombaiyer Bombete, Kailase Kelenkari, Tintorettor Jishu and Gorosthanay Sabdhaan).

Veteran actor Santosh Dutta starred as Jatayu and Siddhartha Chatterjee as Topshe in the films directed by Ray.

Until 2010, Sandip has directed five Feluda feature length films - Baksho Rahashya, Bombaiyer Bombete, Kailashey Kelenkari and Tintorettor Jishu.

Tintorettor Jishu starred a new set of actors, Sabyasachi Chakraborty as Feluda, Parambrata Chatterjee as Topshe and Bibhu Bhattacharyya as Jatayu (although in Baksho Rahashya, Shashwata Chatterjee and Rabi Ghosh acted as Topshe and Jatayu, respectively).

In December, 2010, Sandip Ray made another Feluda movie, Gorosthaney Sabdhan. In it, Bibhu Bhattacharyya and Sabyasachi Chakroborty reprised their roles, but Paramabrata was replaced by Saheb Bhattacharjee as Topshe.
