SHIMOGA: On the occasion of Vijayadashami, there was much fervour and festivities were in full-swing in the tiny village of Mathoor in Shimoga taluk untill the village received the news of Padmashree awardee Mathoor Krishnamurthi’s demise. It was a shocking news for villagers as Mathoor Krishnamurthi expressed his wish to visit the village on Thursday morning over phone on Wednesday night. “He was suffering from fever for over a week but we were still expecting him today,” said Seetharama Avadhani. He was the son of Ramakrishnaiah and Nanjamma who moved to Mathoor. Krishnamurthi was raised in  Mathoor village and  in a poor family.  He moved to Bangalore and then Madras for his higher education.  The pain he experienced to get education sprouted in him the ambition to provide education for the needy.  He started his career as a bus conductor in Shimoga. His honesty and commitment to work took him to the highest level of his career  --  director of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. He served as a director of Bhavan’s, London.
