PARADIP: Secretary of United Action Committee (UAC), a pro-Posco outfit, Nirvya Samantray on Monday met District Collector Narayan Chandra Jena here, seeking protection from the Maoists. This comes after four pro-Posco activists, UAC president Dhirendra Pallei, Nuagaon panchayat samiti member Saumendra Nayak, Gadakujang sarpanch Nakula Sahu and UAC member Jeevanlal Behera of Gadakujang received threat mails from the Red rebels.Meanwhile, all the four UAC members and the elected representatives lodged an FIR with the Kujang police station. A case has been registered under sections 506 and 507 of the IPC. Preliminary investigation revealed that while two letters were posted from Kujang post office, the other two were posted from Cuttack. Police suspect role of mischief-mongers or anti-Posco activists as the letters were written in both red and black ink, unlike the usual Maoist letters written only in red ink. “This might be a ploy of mischief-mongers who want to deter us from supporting the project. However, we will continue to support the project for the sake of socio-economic development of the area,” said Sahu. Kujang IIC Gupteswar Bhoi said services of forensic and hand-writing experts had been sought to determine the origin of the letters. A thorough inquiry to ascertain the genuineness of the letters is underway, he said. The District Collector has agreed to beef up security following talks with the SP. The threat letters would not affect the Posco work, he added.
