New Delhi: For the third day running, heavy rains and flooding in Andhra Pradesh have inflicted heavy damage on villages.
Though a cyclone alert has now been called off, these rains have already affected 36,000 people.
Around a 160 villages have been cut off. Helicopters were used to drop food packets in places cut-off from roads or transport.
The worst affected districts are Nellore, Prakasam and Chitoor. The Met Department has predicted more rain in the next two days.
Commissioner, Disaster Management Preeti Sudan says, "There are 120 relief camps and 99 in Nellore alone and then we have medical teams — mobile and stationary — to ensure that there is no epidemic. We have also arranged for drinking water and we have also tried to send essential commodities to people."
