Preliminary inquiry revealed that the smugglers were shot dead during cross firing.
Punjab: Four smugglers including two Pakistani nationals, carrying 10 packets of heroin, were shot dead by the BSF near Indo-Pak border in Khem Karan village in Punjab on Saturday night.
Sources said there were five smugglers but one managed to flee.
It was learnt that the smugglers were repeatedly challenged by the BSF troops and asked to surrender when they was entering the Indian territory illegally. However, they ignored warnings and tried to escape, following which the BSF aggressively retaliated.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the smugglers were shot dead during cross firing but it is yet to be confirmed.
Ten heroin packets, having street value in crores as per the international black market, was seized.
