A gangrape accused, Pramod Srivastava (24), who had fled from the custody of Mahila Police here, was re-arrested on Monday near the National Institute of Technology-Rourkela campus.
Police said, acting on a tip off, teams were sent to Chhattisgarh in search of the absconding culprit, adding that amid pressure the accused youth returned to Rourkela only to be arrested in the wee hours of Monday by Sector-3 police.
Earlier, Srivastava, one of the six accused in a gangrape case in Malgodam area here on July 19 morning, had fled from the lock-up of the Mahila police station. Two women constables were suspended following the incident.
One Held for Murder
Bonai: Bikram Munda (27) of Sashyakala village near Barsuan was arrested by Lahunipara Police in Bonai sub-division of Sundargarh district on charges of murder. Police said five days back, Munda had hacked a person to death. The identity of the deceased and reason behind the attack are yet to be ascertained.
