Garbage problem: BSY to take MLAs, MPs to CM

After taking credit for the loan waiver scheme announced by the state government, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa seems to have decided to derive political mileage from the garbage mess in Bangalore city.

On Tuesday, he held a meeting with BJP MLAs representing Bangalore City and discussed at length the garbage and drinking water problems in the city.

Yeddyurappa was apprised of the problems at Mandur landfill through a power-point presentation by Health Minister Aravind Limbavali.

The former CM has called a meeting of city MLAs and MPs with Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Friday to find out a permanent solution to the garbage problem.

“I want the government to find out a permanent and long-lasting solution to the garbage mess. All measures for scientific management of garbage will be discussed and a time-bound implementation programme will be chalked out,” he told reporters after the meeting. He also said he would urge the CM to encourage private participation in garbage handling.

“I am told that several firms have come forward to utilise garbage to produce electricity,” he added. He appealed to the citizens to segregate wet and dry waste by themselves. Asked if his meeting with the CM would help in solving the problem, Yeddyurappa said: “Wait for two months, you will come to know about its impact.”
