Girl succumbs to dengue in city hospital

A sixteen-year-old girl from Anekal succumbed to dengue at a hospital in the city on Monday. Doctors said the deceased, Shruti, was suffering from ‘advanced stage of dengue’.

According to pediatrician Dr Rajiv Agarwal Shruti was admitted to the hospital about four weeks ago. “After being treated for a few days at Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, she was brought to our hospital for (the treatment of) advanced stage of dengue. Her blood samples tested positive for dengue,” he said.

“She also developed multiple organs’ failure. After a few days, there were certain improvements in her lungs and liver, but there was no improvement in the condition of her kidneys,” he added. Meanwhile, on Monday morning, there was some confusion over billing. Three other members of the family were also admitted to the hospital, along with Shruti for the treatment of ‘suspected dengue’ about four weeks ago, and the bill came to Rs 11 lakh. The family was shocked. After some negotiation, the hospital authorities waived about Rs 2 lakh and the family settled the bill.
