BANGALORE: With the season of carols, mistletoe’s and decorations kicking in, Bangaloreans will witness their first glimpse of the Christmas celebrations this year. The 37th Annual Cake Exhibition is held from December 16 to January 1 at the St.Joseph’s High School ground. The entire exhibition is created and organised by C. Ramachandran, Promoter of Nilgiris and the chairman of the Blue Hill group in association with the National Consumer Fair (NCF).Each of the 37 cake shows organised in the past have had one major attraction to entice the public. This year feast your eyes to the Bijapur Gol Gumbaz at Namma City. The architectural brilliance of the monument has been captured to a great extent by around 30 bakers monitored under the surveillance of Ramachandran himself. The gigantic delicacy is almost 12 feet in height and 16.5 feet in length. This sugar model was constructed over a period of 50 days with over 5 tons of sugar and edible gelatin. Not only does this structure prove to be a pleasant sight but the sweet scent of the cake makes your tummy grumble with desire as well. When asked about the purpose and the birth of this exhibition Ramachandran said, “We had kept the first cake exhibition at our store Nilgiris which became popular amongst the people. That is when we decided to launch the exhibition for a larger crowd with many more cake attractions. Our first cake exhibition was held in 1969 and since then, there has been no looking back. We will continue to delight Bangaloreans by our offerings.”Their exhibitions have already been able to achieve great accolades by entering the Limca Book of Records for the title for the longest cake in the country. The cake show will prove to be every child’s delight as there are plenty other cake attractions as well such as Barbie dolls, teddy bears, Formula one car, windmills and so on.Furthermore there will be quite a number of stalls selling plum cakes, chocolates, cookies, ice cream and other Christmas goodies. It surely looks like the festive season will get merrier for the under privileged children as well.Ramachandran said, “The cakes will be dismantled after the exhibition and distributed to different charitable organisations for children.”
