HYDERABAD: After much dilly-dallying, the state government on Thursday issued a notification inviting applications for the posts of vice-chancellors in 14 universities in the state. In addition to the vacant posts of vice-chancellors in six universities, the term of another nine vice-chancellors will expire by the end of next month.Applications were invited for the posts of vice-chancellors in Andhra University (Visakhapatnam), Acharya Nagarjuna University (Guntur), Palamuru (Mahabubnagar), Satavahana (Karimnagar), Vikrama Simhapuri (Nellore), Rayalaseema (Kurnool), Krishna (Machilipatnam), Dr BR Ambedkar (Srikakulam), Dravidian (Kuppam), Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University (Hyderabad), JNTU-Hyderabad, JNTU-Anantapur, JNTUKakinada and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University.However, no decision has been taken over appointment of vice-chancellors for Sri Krishnadevaraya, Adikavi Nannaya, Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) and Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam.For the past six months, most of these universities have been functioning under in-charge vicechancellors from other universities.The vice-chancellor posts in the nine universities including the in-charge vicechancellor posts will also fall vacant after their term expires next month.To a notification earlier, about 565 candidates from different states applied for the posts of vice-chancellors.But since then, there was no further action by the state government. Though search committees were appointed for preparing panels of three candidates from those who applied for the posts, several of them were dissolved.According to officials, persons with distinguished academic background with a minimum experience of 10 years as professor in a university or 10 years experience in an equivalent position in a reputed research/academic administrative organisation are eligible for the post.Separate applications should be filed to each university with information pertaining to qualification, academic and administrative experiences and achievements. The applications should be sent to the Principal Secretary for Higher Education within 20 days.
