THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty said that setting up of BPO units in rural areas with government support would be promoted to fill the vacuum in IT infrastructure development.
Discussing about the draft 'Industrial and commercial policy 2011 and IT policy 2011,' he said that the IT exports from the state were set to grow with more companies expressing interest to invest in Kerala. The infrastructural facilities at Technopark and Infopark had helped to achieve good results in IT sector. The focus will be on improving the infrastructure in three years' time. Akshaya had helped to encourage IT ventures in rural areas and it will have a major role to play in the development of IT sector. Kerala will be the first state in the country to make egovernance a reality. The proposed Right to Service Act in Kerala will also be a role model to other states, he said. He said that Techno Lodges launched in rural areas were not successful. Efforts will be taken to ramp up the functioning of Techno Lodges along with encouraging big companies to start their BPO units in rural areas to tap skills.
