BELLARY: Campaigning in Bellary rural constituency is acquiring newer dimensions by the day with the election scheduled for November 30 fast approaching. While BJP leader Ayanur Manjunath ridiculed B Sriramulu for his insult to his conscience, the JD(U) has come forward to support the former Bellary minister. “Has Sriramulu got any ‘mobile self respect’ which stands still while in power and moves about when out of power?” Manjunath asked. Except for laying a few roads on which they frequent, the Reddy brothers have done nothing for Bellary, he said. “This is why they used helicopters more than cars. Did this not attract the attention of Sriramulu then?” he added. While former KPCC chief R V Deshpande said that the BJP government would fall after the byelection, some Veerashaiva leaders in Bellary are busy organising felicitation programmes for former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa. Another set of Veerashaiva leaders in the Congress party have decided to file a complaint against Yeddyurappa for his alleged remarks against the community. Former Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Allum Veerabhadrappa said that while Yeddyurappa may proclaim to be a Veerashaiva leader, the community leaders are present in all parties. JD(U) leader Dr M P Nadagowda supported Sriramulu openly stating that a new political force is needed in the state. “People are bored with the anti-people policies of Congress, JD(S) and BJP; now we want a new political force, which can be realised only with Sriramulu’s victory,” he said. “The JD(S) may be a partner of the NDA, but it is free to take decisions on issues relating to the state,” Nadagouda sought to explain.
