The Rajasthan High Court on Wednesday quashed an FIR against Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and others in connection with the alleged conversion of government land in favour of her son, Dushyant Singh, during her previous term.
Justice Nisha Gupta, before whom a plea in this regard came up for hearing, allowed the petition and quashed the FIR and the proceedings arising out of it.
The plea was filed by Rajasthan Administrative Services officer (RAS) Rajesh Verma who was then the sub-divisional magistrate-cum-sub-divisional officer of Badi in Dholpur.
According to the FIR, Verma, under the influence of then Chief Minister Raje, favoured Dushyant in getting a large chunk of government pasture land converted in his name by way of a judicial order in 2004.
It was contended that the land in question was registered as government land by the settlement department and it was only after thorough investigation and collection of evidence by the state, the land was re-registered from 'siwai chak' (government land) to 'shri sarkar' (his highness of) Dholpur
(who was Dushyant Singh at that time). The land was originally registered in the name of Dholpur dynasty.
Ajay Kumar Jain, counsel for the RAS officer, contended that the FIR was politically motivated. The FIR was moved by the complainants after a delay of four-and-half years and it was merely an attempt to malign the named accused. "Taking note of our contentions the court has quashed the FIR and the proceedings drawn out of the FIR," said Jain.
