KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday stayed the move of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to construct a canopy over the Holy Steps at Sabarimala temple.A Division Bench comprising Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice S S Satheesa Chandran, issued the order on a suo motu case registered by it on the basis of a news report. The TDB submitted before the court that the canopy was an offering of a devotee and it does not cause any financial liability to the Board.“The canopy is being provided to protect the Holy Steps as well as for performing Padipooja during rainy season. There was a temporary roof of tarpaulin but it is in bad shape now,” the TDB submitted. The court said that introducing any alteration on the Holy Steps would affect its serenity.
