Bangalore: Heavy rain lashed the IT city on Sunday night, flooding roads and inundating many residential areas. It has also reduced the Monday morning traffic movement to a crawl in Central, Western and Eastern parts of the city.
The rain, started around 8 o'clock in the night, continued till mid-night. The central part of the city was badly affected. Cars, two wheelers and auto-rickshaws were grounded in knee-deep water on many busy roads. The BMTC buses were submerged under the railway bridge near Kino theatre in Sheashadripuram and many other low lying areas.
Overflowing manholes and clogged drainages sent rain water gushing into houses in Eastern and Western parts of the city. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has started relief work in the early morning. Angry residents had a heated argument with local BBMP officials over delayed response.
Bangalore is expected to receive intermittent rainfall all through the week.
